Healthy Living Quotes
A Proactive Approach to Good Living!
“We are coming to understand health not as the absence of disease, but rather as the process by which individuals maintain their sense of coherence (i.e. sense that life is comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful) and ability to function in the face of changes in themselves and their relationships with their environment.” – Aaron Antonovsky
There is a growing apathy amongst many today that fitness is for people who need to lose weight or worse are vain about their looks! Unfortunately many are also in “denial”, as sub-consciously they accept exercise + proper nutrition is part and parcel of living a good, sustainable and healthy life.
It’s this ambivalence that makes setting out on an exercise programme such an ordeal for many. After all, if you want anything enough, most people will find a way to get it, unless of course you are unsure of the rewards in relation to the effort.
So the hardest thing about training a newcomer is that their “mindset” is often incompatible with that necessary to sustain an exercise habit.
So what comes first? Get people exercising and watch their “mindset” develop? Or should we work first on the mindset and encourage exercise as a result?
At Get F.I.T., I chose the latter. The whole concept of F.I.T. is tied-up with appropriate exercise that is meaningful and time-efficient for the busy professional already under great demands in all areas of their life. And this is why I wanted to share this quote from Aaron Antonovsky with you today.
Modern day living demands that we have have reserves in all areas of our lives. Our health + fitness is no different. But perhaps more poignantly, success is not so dependent on external factors such as money, job title or our network, but on who we become.
It is in this context -”the ability to function in the face of change” – that those who have discovered F.I.T. as a preferred way of training have also discovered an unfair advantage over those who continue to kid themselves that exercise is for the overweight and vain!
